Last night a long-term PBSer, and Oregon bowhunting legend, Vern Struble passed away. He was a mentor to many of us in PBS, and he brought the joy of shooting the bow to literally thousands of young people through his teaching in 4H archery for close to half a century. He will really be missed by many in this state, in our organization, and by anybody who got to know Vern...he was one "class act" and truly represented the heart and soul of PBS and bowhunting "done right." More information will follow on a memorial service for Vern.

Very sorry to hear of this. I never met Vern but knew of him through different stories and articles. I know he was the kind of man I admired and would have been honored to know him.

Thanks for posting the sad news, Jim. Vern was truly an icon of PBS, though he would shy away from that label. He literally epitomized ethical bowhunting. He will be sorely missed but fondly remembered. Our best wishes to Fran and the rest of his family, both blood and bow.

Tip if the bowhunters cap to you Vern and happy hunting! You will be missed greatly. Truly a legend and a friend to all that had the opportunity to meet you.

One of the highlights of my life was meeting the fellow Oregonian, Vern Struble. He was a giant in the world of bowhunting and gave so much to so many in the sport. He will be missed terribly. RIP Vern.

Sorry to hear the passing of a true friend to PBS. I had many great moments with Vern at the PBS gatherings. We ran against each other for council. Needless to say,I lost. Our thoughts and prayers to his family.

So sorry to hear this. Vern was a gentleman... in the truest form. I haven't seen him for years. At times, we feel like we will live forever, and then something like this happens. Our prayers are sent for the family. RIP, Brother.

Vern Struble is the reason I am a member of the PBS. He bugged me for a number of years before I finally joined back in the 90s. His dedication to our sport and the thousands of hours he spent mentoring youth and adults in promoting traditional archery should be a shining example to all of us. His warm smile and friendly demeanor were just a bonus to the fine individual he was.
I will miss him dearly.

I did not know him, but wish that I could have had the opportunity. If I may make a request, I am wondering if someone could post a picture of Vern for those of us who did not know him personally. It's always nice to honor a man with photos of so many good memories and contributions made to our sport.

My prayers will include Vern, his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Good request Mike. I have a power point about Vern that we did for his Shupienis Award given to him 7 years ago in Salt Lake City. I'd like to post the whole thing....but will need some help/advice, or maybe it is too big at 9,685KB? Thoughts/suggestions?

Vern will be surly missed. He alone was responsible for many of us out here in the west joining PBS. I remember meeting Vern in the mid 1980's and him handing me a membership application telling me I should join. Thanks Vern for all you've done for bowhunting and especially the Professional Bowhunters Society, you're efforts have and will not go unnoticed.

Thanks Vern for all you did for bowhunting and the PBS. I knew him from Jay Massey's books, and was lucky enough to sit with him at one of the banquet meals. It was a pleasure and a highlight for me.
