Great news! Glad that everything went well.
I'm sure he will be back in the woods as soon as he can. Good luck to both of you this fall.

Barry, Thanks for the bootcamp last week, it was fun and I learned a lot.

Way to go Gene! Best of luck on your recovery and don't push yourself to hard in cardiac rehab.

Well now that Gene will have to take it easy this fall, Barry you are going to need some help getting all of those stands set so get my room ready. I'll be there "Come September" to help get all the stands up. I'll even give you and Gene first dibs on which stands to hunt.

All kidding aside, thanks for the updates Barry, glad to hear GW is doing well.

Please don't stop the prayers. Gene was doing great and they were going to release him to go home tomorrow. Unfortunately, he went back into A-Fib this afternoon (3/25/15). I talked with him myself and he wanted me to thank everyone for their support/prayers. They say the A-fib is "fairly common" after by-pass surgery. His B/P is fine but the heart rate is elevated. They are treating it now with meds rather than shocking him back and will proceed as needed tomorrow. I don't think it's anything to panic about but he's not "out of the woods" yet. Thank you all again. bw

Yep Barry, I've heard first hand from friends that the condition your describing is common. When you consider that a guy can experience heart trauma, get bypass surgery and be out in a week it's really quite remarkable. An extra day or two to let the heart get back in the groove again with a little help seems pretty reasonable. Even so...........No shortage of prayers on this end.

Pulled out my copy of Come November for another re-read last night, and I've also been scouting heavily and using smoke bombs to monitor suspect wind swirling from certain tree stands I want to hunt this fall. Another great idea I read in Gene's writing. He and Barry have influenced my hunting in many ways, all for the better. Still praying for a complete and speedy recovery.

I like Rob's comment the best... PBS needs you... That applies to both you guys.

Don't worry Gene. I had a quadruple by-pass in 2008 and I've dragged many a deer out of the Sika marshes since then. I can also climb trees so life goes on as before but better (more wind and energy). Listen to the doctors and good luck with rehab.

Best wishes for a full and quick recovery to Uncle Gene. Hopefully both of the twin Unks will be with us for a long, long time.

Jing and I stopped by Uncle Gene's house to visit for a few minutes on Saturday. He is in good spirits. His son Ken is spending the week with Gene and Donna. He tends to tire out pretty quickly so keep this in mind if you try to call or visit.

The mental of image of Gene Wensel getting spanked is a troubling one...

Here's a few words from the man of the hour himself...

I sincerely apologize for this being a mass mailing, but considering how many emails, postal notes, get well cards, phone calls, etc. came pouring in, this seems to be the best means of resolving my part of the communication issues from my recent health problem to as many of you as possible. I am on the mend and feeling better by the day, although I exhaust myself easily right now even talking on the phone until I get through cardiac rehabilitation. Although I'm not allowed to drive for a month and can't do routine things like lifting, mowing my lawn, shooting my bow, climbing trees, etc. until after June 23, predictions are that I will be a "new man" by October 1st.

As most of you know by now, I had a heart attack a couple weeks back. They did an angiogram that identified three blockages that needed fixed, so I had triple bypass surgery a week ago yesterday (March 23). Everything went very well. I came home a couple days ago, I've started walking more and I now look forward to more cardiac rehab very soon.
I was very impressed with the care I got. Both my cardiologist and surgeon were top shelf, as were their teams and all the nurses involved. At 70 years old, this was the first time I've ever been in a hospital since birth and the first time I ever had surgery.
In addition to the health care personnel, I want to especially thank my Donna, our kids, our other family, both real and extended, for all their help and support.
I don't want to string this email out too much more, as even typing this tires me right now. I sincerely apologize if I forgot to thank someone. All those thoughts and prayers were sincerely appreciated and absorbed. God apparently is not done with me yet! May God bless each and every one of you.
Gene Wensel
