Good read, the area looks familiar. What kind of stand were you using. I was wondering due to the fact that the stands tend to be smaller so you can carry them some distance.

I've been there.... no not with a mortally shot Elk but sitting with my head in my arse.

This past season my jacket blew off a nearby limb when I was setting my stand. 2 different bucks cruised by before I was set on public land so I decided to forget about it on a 15 degree morning. This was after I dropped my rope I was fishing for it with. Next deer in range received a pass recuse I couldn't handle my bow without shaking like a dummy.

Lesson Learned, tie or strap in important stuff. Climb down if i feel its important regardless of activity around me.

Your perseverance and knowledge paid off and I believe you played the hand you were dealt perfectly. The best hand dealt at a poker table doesn't always win, However sometimes the worst one does.

Ted...I'm with you on the luck thing. She's a bit fickle and unreliable when you need her though.

Still a great thread and really gets me thinking about the little things and how they make a difference.

Ted, really enjoyed the story. Great job on the end result. Can't imagine what that had to be like for so many hours, even with the saga being told so well. Even had a few laughs along the way!
