Favorite pursuit and why? What is it about the pursuit of certain game that triggers you? Why do you love the pursuit of one animal over another?

Tell us...pics are worth many, many words! 8-)

I tried to get all the Pope and Young animals in. Didn't have room for the Cougar due to limitations of Polling options. :?

Bears for me.

I have only killed one bear, and stalked two. So I am batting 500.

I like bears for several reasons, mostly because I don't have them in my home state, but they are still widely distributed throughout North America and you seem to run into them in many of the places I frequent. I run into them a lot while hunting and fishing in places other than my home state. I have had a few really close encounters with bears while not hunting them, which always makes for an exciting day.

I have made my mind up to hunt bears more in the near future as my two bear stalks were as alive and aware as I have ever been with a weapon in my hands. Exhilarating does not describe it for me.

I take whitetail for granted as they are IT in my home state and most of the neighboring states I hunt.

I am planning on hitting the Elk a little harder the next few years as well.

But I think bears are cool and I want to learn more about them and get better at hunting them.

P.J.

Since turkey wasn't an option, I chose elk. I haven't hunted sheep or goats but imagine I'd rank them up there if I was able to. Hard to consider something I haven't actually hunted. I would love to hunt them ALL, though.

I hunt mostly whitetail, but crave chasing elk. Love the country where elk live.

The majestic bighorn sheep is my favorite to hunt. I love the high country they live in, and that "crack" of butting horns gets me going!

I had to select whitetail deer because I get to do it with my family.

I would've selected alligator for the same reason. It's just a unique and fun experience.

#1, Mule deer.

Focused my deep inner thinking - my best years - on getting good shots at these critters. Still lost the game 95% of the time....but sometimes, fate favored the awkward and primitive hunter!

#2, Elk....they talk a lot and are awfully tasty!

#3, NZ Red Deer in wild country...for not living with predators (other than man) they are darn smart, lucky, and aggressive "on the call."
#4, tie: RM Bighorns and NZ Tahr, both are agile, smart, majestic, and live in awesome scenery!

I had to really give this one some thought! I've not been fortunate enough to have hunted everything on the list, but deer, bear, and elk made the choice really difficult. But elk won out for me because of the back country experience and the general country they inhabit.

For me there is no question.......ELK!
Though I have yet to kill an elk there is just something awesome about being that close to an animal that size and that intelligent.
I think one other thing that makes me enjoy elk hunting so much is that when I travel to hunt elk that is the only thing I am there to do.

When I was 6 years old my family moved to the base of Fort Lewis Mtn. in western VA. Woke up one morning and there were 10 whitetail deer feeding in our back yard.....been in love with them ever since. ;)

Its a tough one between Bears and Whitetail. I haven't hunted any other big game species, so its between these two.

I would have to say elk just something about a Bull screaming a bugle out, that makes you realize you are out in the wild.

I chose deer and elk. I've only been able to hunt elk 1 time but it was enough to know I love it. To me it's the perfect blend of deer and turkey hunting all wrapped up together.

Loaded Question I love hunting any animal. I do love bears and would go every year if I could. A dream hunt would be Moose though.

I wonder what the results would look like if you had included hogs and/or turkeys.

Moose has to be my favorite. Mostly because where I have hunted them, Interior Alaska when I lived on the Yukon in the early 80's. Sitting on ridgetops and glassing vast areas of wilderness in September just does it for me. Would love to do that again.

Closer to home it would be white tails, I never tire of watching undisturbed deer.

For me if I had to pick one it would be elk. I just love hunting in the country they inhabit and hearing a bull bugle. They are just amazing animals. Luckily in the real world I don't have to pick just one. :D

Sorry but I voted on two. Elk and Moose. I couldn't imagine anything cooler than elk in the rut until I hunted moose. Both of them can be called into the hunter and for me that's huge and what I live for. End of the day it's hard but I'd have to give the nod to elk, but not by much.

I would have to say whitetail deer first, because I live where I can hunt them frequently.
Elk would be my second favorite. Just breathing the fresh mountain air brings back fond memories with great friends. Every year, as soon as I leave the mountains I start to miss them. Come on September.

Brown Bear is mixed with the other bears (there is a whole different.....uhmm.....pucker factor between hunting browns and blacks) and there isn't a Kitty category; my vote went to my third choice, the Mt. Goat.

I voted for deer but would like to connect on a moose. Presently, working on an elk. Had so many close encounters but as the caller, it just has not panned out. If you want to shoot an elk, just get downwind of me with a call.

Small game for me...just something about it. The various seasons, chances to fling multiple arrows, GREAT table fare, and all the unique experiences to be had. Rabbits, squirrels, porcupines, pigeons, grouse, bullfrogs, woodchucks, etc...I love them all!!!

Has to be whitetail, only because its pretty much the only option down here in the south. But I'm in sync with Rob's sentiment. Elk would probably be my first choice if their habitat were a little closer to home.
