I got an email from our PBS magazine editor today saying we are really in need of material for the upcoming issue. Our recent issue was outstanding but we need input from more members. Hunt stories, hints, opinions, how-to stuff, photos, humor, etc. Our magazine is only what we make it. I know its still November but send Jack something! Thanks.

This is just my opinion, but from doing the magazine now for nearly two years, I suggest that stories don't (or even shouldn't) be page on page of blow by blow accounts. That is Ok for some stories, but a couple of pictures with a 5 paragraph story can give lots of flavor to the way PBSers hunt throughout the country. Shorter stories with pics hold the attention and can give real color to the nature of our member hunts without requiring a degree in literature from Harvard. I believe our magazine doesn't have nearly enough photos. Nearly all of the photos posted on the website are quality and would lend real substance to the magazine for the 90 percent who never visit this forum.

Something that has worked successfully in the past is to take a story and the pictures that people have posted on here about their hunts and turn that into a story. It is exactly what Gene and Gene are talking about and it won't take more than 30 minutes of your time copying and pasting your thread from here into a Word document.

Sounds like a great idea. I'm in! I should have a rather lengthy one in this next issue, but I like the ideo of short snipit hunts.

I'm thinking "Old Goats and Giant Gators" has a ring to it! :)

Good thoughts. I like the short stuff with photos too. This should make it easier for some new faces too. Thanks for the input.

Thanks Gene. I just submitted a story to Jack last week for the magazine. Hopefully I'll have a couple more before the season is out.

I have been kicking around the idea of a couple short stories but haven't done so yet.

I guess I need to get on it tho weekend.

Can submissions and photos be emailed in or do I have to mail in a hard copy? If they can be emailed, who should they be sent to?

Email Sean. It should be listed in the magazine:

probowhunters@roadrunner.com

I'd ask for a note back that they got it, sometimes the email acts up.

Good idea on not being necessary making a long, detailed article. At the end of an exciting hunt or the end of a season I always seem to have several close calls that may or may not have ended in a kill. A short version along with a picture or two will draw interest and may help more than you think. bw

If our Gene Hall is looking for color photos, I have a bunch of good trail camera photos of nice bucks that I could elaborate on individually. The "fish that got away" or was never hooked for that matter! Trail cam pics with a few sentences about each would be good viewing/reading except for the jealous guys

I also have dozens of arrow impact photos that would/could be cool as long as they are in good taste. These could become a regular feature from other members too. I killed a coyote in front of my trail camera last month that is classic. I know Brian Wessel got some great pics of his NT buck impact too last week.

I've got one that I've been working on. Will hopefully have it finished up over Thanksgiving weekend.
