I think a lot of guys like me ready to take the next step , we just might need a push, or maybe for a regular to just ask I would like to sponsor you ,I have never had a regular ask me , do you need help or have any question about becoming a regular member , I come from a state that only has two regular members someday I will make it three , like to thank Melvin for making that push on me ,

this is an awsome post you got started here PJ. Hopefully this will be the nudge several long time assosiates need. Im sure there are several out there like me that cant reall explain why they havent applied before now.I do think that this is something we could do better encouraging and assisting those that are ready to make the jump to regular.

Speaking as a Regular who has sponsored Associates in their trek toward Regular membership, it's a task I think we all take very seriously. My sponsor took it seriously, and I had to prove (to him) my capabilities, ethics, attitude and commitment. He proofed my application and gave me advice. If the sponsor does their job, the applicant will have gained an enormous amount of insight into themselves, their priorities, PBS and hunting with bow and arrow. That said, many Regulars never get to be a sponsor due to lack of opportunity to spend enough quality time with an Associate...to truly get to know them thoroughly and completely. I would very much like to sponsor an Associate (again), but there are simply few of them living anywhere near me. I guess I can take comfort in knowing that I'm only one PBS Regular, but I've done my part to expand the Regular roster....and the Associate as well.

I will also add this: A good number of Associates have zero interest in becoming a Regular, and I respect that position. There is no obligation to become a Regular...ever. An Associate can do a huge amount of work and can be a mentor to many. Some of our better-known members are/were Associates and never made an attempt to qualify. I think we all know guys who are Associates and they have WAY more qualifications than many Regulars. They don't want to apply and that's their business. Being an excellent PBS member is truly enough reward.

Craig, keep in mind that an Associate does not have to wait for a Regular to offer to sponsor them. The Associate can seek out a Regular to be their sponsor if they want to. And Regulars can definitely approach Associates who they feel would make a good Regular member.

Also, your sponsor does not have to be from your state, he/she can be from anywhere as long as the two of you are able to talk, hunt together, and get to know each other. You can go to each others state to hunt together or both attend a PBS membership hunt or just hunt together in a third state.

Larry

I just contacted the guy who gifted me my very first year of PBS dues and asked if he would like to sponsor me. He said "Without a doubt". Ball is rolling.

I contacted the Home Office to get a membership application mailed to me, now the dreaded wait.

Surely you jest...

You are a first ballot Regular IMO. I'd sponsor you but my new spot on Council makes that just about impossible.

WOW, does that application ever make a guy think. Using the electronic version, how are the documents signed?

Email me, and I will forward a blank one to you. miklvines@gmail.com

It needs to be converted to a PDF when mailing into the home office I was told. It reduces the size of the file.

I hope to one day be able to demonstrate I have what it takes to be a PBS Regular. If anyone in the Indianapolis area would be up to mentoring a greenhorn, let me know. I am eager to learn as Mike Vines can attest. I do tend to spend an inordinate amount of time in MI ;)

Chris, look up Terry Bowling. He's a good guy that I think is a Regular? PJ will probably know of more in the area.

Craig, let me know if you need anything from me my friend.

Chris,

I live in Greencastle, which is a little over an hour away from you to your South West. (Mike said you live in Cicero) I would gladly help you along in your journey. As Terry R stated, there are several PBS members in you general area, Terry Bowling, Me, Herb Higgins, I am drawing a blank as to his last name, but a guy named Mike that is a school teacher in Danville and many others within an hour and a half to two hours.

You are lucky, Indiana has a large PBS presence, as does Michigan and Illinois. I am certain you will receive plenty of support throughout this endeavor.

Terry R is a Hoosier, he's just a we bit nomadic.

We can talk if you end up in Cinci and I will introduce you to any of the local PBS members that are in attendance.

P.J.

If you want to apply and get accepted (hopefully) as a Regular member in time to help us with the January 2015 elections, you need to get on it NOW! You can plan on at least several weeks to do your application and get a Regular member to sponsor you (assuming a Regular member already knows you well enough to sponsor you without spending time with you). Once your application is received by the Home Office your name is published in the next edition of the magazine for comment from the membership prior to the council making an official vote. Plan on 3-6 months for this process depending on when your application is received and when the next edition gets printed.

We will be completing the review process much quicker, starting now (on electronic application).

Well Well it is finaly done. After procrastinating for a number of years, and then getting a kick in the pants by Biggie Hoffman(LOL), and then a nudge by Steve Hohensee I started the application, then to have the computer crash, along with a change in internet and email service, I was able to get back on tract and with a letter from my sponsor giving me the green light, the application have been sent off electronicaly to Jack. Now I will patiently wait for the outcome. Until then, the good Lord willing, I hope to see some of you guys in Cincy on Thursday.

Tony

I know of a couple others that have their application finished and ready to submit.

2014 is going to be a great year for Regular applications-
