Lost a great friend yesterday. Patrick Sawyer former Alaskan and good friend of Jay Massey passed yesterday in Stillwater,OK. A man of tremendous talent, in fact a premier wildlife artist. A very humble soul that never knew the word brag. I new Pat a few years before I learned of his talents with paint and pen. Having accomplished things such as being one of the top ten wildlife artist in the world to be invited to events throughout the world! Pat said I am not that good. Painting the first duck stamp for the state of Oklahoma in 1970, numerous since. Many Ducks unlimited prints. I could go on and on. Most PBS members probably have seen his work. The last conversation I had with him we talked of his old days in Alaska when He, Jay and a couple others formed the Moose federation and had a calling contest. Pat was named world moose calling champion and he chuckled because there wasn't much competition. A great man indeed has left this world.

This print was done by Pat for PBS back in the 1980's at Jay Massey's request. I am fortunate to have been given one by Pat.

Sincere condolences to his family and friends, including you Preston. Sounds like a good man walking a good trail.

Never had a chance to meet Patrick but I was the high bidder on one of the framed PBS prints that was auctioned off quite a few banquets ago.

Sorry to hear that. I have one of those prints as well. It's one of my favorites. Will mean all the more now.
RIP Pat

Preston, I'm sorry to hear of Patrick's passing as I too have his print here in my office. However, celebrate the life he lived and God having blessed us with his artistry.
