Hey John, Good post. Supporting this was a high point from my Council years --- and seeing the reaction at the WAFWA meeting in Omaha, NB when we played it as part of a presentation to state Fish & Wildlife leadership (all western states) on the encroachment of technology in bowhunting...it was ...

Excellent idea Kevin! My similar "concept" is using mules to go turkey hunting - in larger road closure areas. In fact, the cover of the latest Magazine (me on mule by stock-pond) is on one such hunt. Advantage: cover lots of miles, stop and tie-up when birds are heard, carry a few decoys ...

Hey Andy, Some good advice from Rob & Dennis. I have used Grizzly sticks on elk and smaller species in New Zealand. They certainly enhance penetration with their weight: (almost 800 grain with my set-up), which is always good. However, I now prefer slimmer options with carbon arrows and distinct...

Mike,

What I recall was 2 1/2" W. X 2" H.

Maybe someone (owning one) could photograph - post next to a ruler.

As Mike V. says - they are a nice size. I'm sure H.O. has some on hand...

Thanks for the good words - all of you. Thinking about a sequel that will have a mix of hunting stories and field biology adventures. We are having a brutal winter here in NE Oregon and our deer and antelope herds are really starting to show the effect. I suspect this is a parallel situation with a lot of western states....so before you finalize your western deer hunting plans -- might reach out to your chosen state F&G or F&a...

Wow, good question. Looking back in time - 1984 to 1990, two streaks of 2 involving - 1 bull elk and 1 mule deer buck per streak....I guess, not very impressive! Now clean-miss-streaks would be a more impressive tally! As a western bowhunter we just don't get enough opportunities for "hot strea...

Jerry, Kevin has good advice. I like rifle scabbards for carrying two piece bows. Frequently, I will carry my great Northern quiver on my day pack - so both bow and quiver are handy, yet put away.
